WHAT IF TOMORROW WERE CANCELLED?

February 22, 2005

Luke 12: 16- 21 & James 4: 13- 14

INTRODUCTION:

1-    Imagine this “scenario” if you would!

2-    Just suppose that you have plans tonight to enjoy the family & relax.

3-    And in your recreational time there comes on TV. “Tomorrow has been cancelled”!

4-    Or you’ve just completed your 1 ½ million dollar home;

5-    The cleaning lady is coming tomorrow and you’re moving in!

6-    But the announcement comes that “Tomorrow has been cancelled”!

7-    There’ll absolutely be no Tomorrow!

YOU CAN SIT HERE AND THINK HOW RIDICULOUS!

1-    But it’s not ridiculous! Millions literally hear of their tomorrow being cancelled every day of life.

2-    That announcement could come to you and me today.

3-    How many do you know that has left this world with their tomorrow being cancelled?

THERE ARE THOSE AMONG US THAT HAVE HAD A NEAR MISS WITH TOMORROW BEING CANCELLED:

1-    A heart attack or an almost heart attack.

2-    A near call with an automobile accident.

3-    Or cancer of pneumonia.

4-    Every one of us are just a breath away from our tomorrow being cancelled.

HOW MANY OF YOU KNOW THAT THERES NOT MANY CERTAINTIES IN THIS LIFE:

1-    However death and taxes are certain.

2-    What we have in this world is not stable; it can crumble and fall.

3-    James tells us to not say what we’re going to do tomorrow.

4-    For what is your life; it is like a vapor that appeareth for a little while and vanishes away.

5-    This world you’re living is not the real world.

6-    But there’s a “Real World to come”!

7-    That City that John saw coming down from God out of heaven, The New Jerusalem!

8-    That city whose builder and maker is God.

9-    Don’t you want to go there?

BE CAREFUL HOW ATTACHED TO THIS WORLD YOU BECOME:

1-    Don’t get to attached; or too possessive of your possessions down here.

2-    Folks that are possessive of possessions become possessed by this world.

3-    And become an enemy of God! Amen?

THE MAN IN THE PARABLE WAS POSSESSED WITH THE I’S AND THE MY’S:

1-    He had no concern for the poor and the needy.

2-    Like so many today! “No Fear”, ain’t skeered!

3-    His concern was to get all he could and sit back and enjoy it.

4-    He already had success & satisfaction and security!

5-    What more did he need?

6-    He really needed to not pay the high cost of being wrong! Amen?

THIS WORLD IS FULL OF FOLKS THAT THINK THEY’LL FOREVER AND NEVER DIE:

1-      But death will come to all of us; “for it’s appointed unto man once to die and after that the judgment”

HIS FIRST QUESTION TO HIMSELF WAS:

2-      What shall I do?

3-      But the most important question never entered his mind.

4-      He should have been thinking of the hereafter; “But he didn’t”!

5-      This man’s tomorrow was cancelled with the words in verse 20.

6-      “Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee”

7-      Death caught this man when he least expected it.

8-      When things were going good;

9-      Don’t we all know that when its time to live its time to die?

10- It didn’t matter what he was leaving behind; but rather what awaited him without God.

11- This man lived without God & He died without God! What a tragedy!

WHAT SHALL I DO WITH MY STUFF?

1-    His Bountiful crops had yielded more than the barns could house!

2-    He’d been given more than enough; enough to give to the needy.

BUT HE SUFFERED FROM “I” TROUBLE:

1-    You know, “I will do this” or I will do that! It’s all about me, the big I.

2-    I will pull down my barns & I will build greater.

3-    I will store all MY crops. “I will say to MY soul.

4-    He was totally consumed with “SELF”.

MY SOUL, HE’D NEVER GIVEN HIS SOUL TO THE LORD:

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal.

But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Mt. 6: 19- 21

1-    Give your heart to Jesus and you will not perish but have everlasting life.

THERE’S A HIGH COST TO WRONG LIVING:

1-    He told his very soul to “Take your ease; eat, drink and be merry”.

BELOVED; THE BIGGEST LIE THE DEVIL HAS TO OFFER IS ON WRONG LIVING:

1-     You go man! Go to those worldly place of entertainment! It’s OK

2-     You live your life the way you want to! It’s OK.

3-     Be selfish, Be self-indulgent, Live an extravagant life.

4-     Go ahead; get those Tattoo’s and Pierce your body; it belongs to no one but you.

5-     Honey you go on; But ask the Mayo clinic about what you’ve done down the road!

6-     You live that “GUSTO LIFE” Drink that alcohol; and do those DRUGS.

7-     You go on Man! It’s your life!

BELOVED; ALL THE LIES FROM HELL ARE GIVEN TO DESTROY YOU:

1-    Man was created in the likeness and image of God.

2-    You were created to love the Lord and to serve Him in the beauty of Holiness.

WHAT WOULD IT BE LIKE TO HAVE YOUR TOMORROW CANCELLED?

1-    That night!  God said: “The Party’s over Man”!

2-    That night! God said; “Thy soul shall be required of thee”>

3-    God demanded it!

4-    That night! “The body died but the soul was called before God”

WHEN THE PARTY’S OVER: THE SOUL OF A MAN IS REQUIRED TO STAND BEFORE GOD:

1-    The good times and all the riches of this world are left behind.

2-    Left behind to face the grave; to face God and to face a sinners Hell!

3-    What would you do if your “tomorrow was cancelled”?

4-    There’s a high cost to living wrong!

HOW SAD TO LIVE A LIFE AND HAVE THE LORD TO CALL YOU A FOOL:

1-    Thy fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee!

2-    Give it some thought today!

3-    Where will you spend ETERNITY?

4-    Will it be Heaven or will it be HELL?

5-    But be ye well assured; you will spend ETERNITY somewhere;

6-    When the PARTY’S OVER;

7-    What will you hear the Master say?

8-    Can you really afford to continue to live and party in this world?

9-    There’s a high cost to PARTYING WITH THIS WORLD.

10-                       How rich are you today?
